Nanotechnology encompasses science, engineering, and technology at the nanoscale, which is about 1 to 100 nanometers.
Just how small is that? A nanometer is a billionth of a meter, or a millionth of a millimetre. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 100,000 nanometers thick. Nanoscale matter can behave differently than the same bulk material. For example, a material’s melting point, color, strength, chemical reactivity, and more may change at the nanoscale.
When familiar materials are reduced to Nano proportion’s they begin to develop odd properties. For example, plastics can conduct electricity, gold particles can appear red or green and solids can turn into liquids almost spontaneously at room temperature.
At the Nano scale, substances may behave differently or better compared to the same substances at macro sizes. Substances can become super-elastic, physically stronger or weaker, able to cope with vast changes in temperature and pressure and become more chemically reactive.
Nanotechnology is inherently defined as the study, application, and engineering of materials, devices, and systems on a very small scale. JBS 5th D structures involve the manipulation of matter with at least one dimension sized from 1 to 100 nanometers, deemed nanomaterials. At this scale, sometimes referred to as the quantum realm, quantum mechanical effects play a large role in the properties and interactions of matter. These quantum effects generate unique phenomena, and the exploitation of this reality allows for the production of a much larger range of possible material characteristics than are achievable through conventional, macro or even micro scale engineering.

When established products are not enough, JBS will provide custom formulations with exceptional material flexibility and total control of the product parameters.
Particle composition, size, material purity and hydrodynamic diameter can all be tailored to the suit the client’s application.

The Airbus A380 uses about 20% composite materials containing nanomaterials, saving fuel through weight reduction. Increasing the miles per gallon for cars, aircraft, ships, and any form of transport is not only energy saving, but also reduces costs dramatically. Nanotechnology has been very active in improving the environmental impact of many forms of transport. For example, the cost of carrying 1kg extra in weight can cost up to $300 in fuel over 5000 flying hours. This is the reason why some airlines even use lightweight paper for their in-flight magazine to reduce weight as much as possible. By using tablet computers instead of heavy log books, one airline has reported savings of over $300,000 per year.
Virgin Atlantic estimates that shaving a single pound off all the planes in their fleet would save them 14,000 gallons of fuel per year. The airline has redesigned its meal trays fitting more smaller, lighter trays on each meal cart, which means fewer meal carts per plane. The net result is close to a 300-pound weight loss.
